Dear Amy

I got your presentation, and i chose 8 of your personal slides to present in the District Conference.

I had some difficulties to download them, because I was traveling and the connection was not too good, but I got it!

All the people here are looking forward to seeing you in real! You are a great group and it is my great pleasure with my girlfriend Sinikka to welcome you to Turku!

Best regards, welcome to Finland!

Dearest Oklahoma GSEs,

You are heartily welcome to Finland and especially to your first town of visit – Forssa! The town’s two clubs, Forssa and Sepänhaka, eagerly wait for you. This letter is to give you some kind of idea, what we have planned for you. But before I go any further – Robynn and Amy – are you allergic to dogs? I have planned to host you both, but my pet is a Pyrenean dog, a big lady of 73 kg (160,6 lbs)!! Lots of white fur but lovely, nosy and as sweet as a lamb (I assume lambs are sweet natured...). So I need to know are you able to stay with me or should we change the host families? As soon as I have all the relevant details of your host families, I’ll forward them to you!

Okay – about your programme:
First of all, Monday 10th of May, we have arranged a pick-up from the airport and we have small and fairly modest welcome do here in Forssa, where your host families come to meet you and take you home to settle down.

On Tuesday, the 11th, we were planning to start at 9.00 by introducing Kehräämö area, an old spinning mill and factory area that has been changed into a modern educational centre including library, museums and some private businesses. We’ll have a tour and Ms. Mari Noromies, our expert on local tourism, tells you about the place and its history. Some shopping and handicraft to do too!

About 11.30 we’ll visit kindergarte
n. Mrs. Titta Autio, the director of the day-care centre, explains you a bit more about Finnish day-care system Then we’ll have lunch.

After the lunch we have planned for Jill a visit in the upper secondary school of Forssa, where you can attend to a English class and they would probably love to hear about your ways of teaching, your school systems etc. too. Soprepare for lots of questions.

For Aimee and Lynn - a tour on local hospital and health centre. If there is time left and if you are not too exhausted due to the time difference, a quick look into the school for nurses.

For Robynn and Amy – for you we have planned a visit to a local gym, which has just opened  a Kids world. This modern and diverse gym, which is focused on preventing work related problems, has young and enthusiastic entrepreneur. She is investing boldly to the gym to provide good service. The company employs physiotherapists, trainers, lower limb physiotherapy etc. I think her company is also a good example of HR matters.

After the visits we all head for home for a while and then we have evening do at 6pm, where you have your team presentation in our intercity meeting. After the meeting, you’ll get home and in BED! (I’m sure – jetlag is affecting by now)

Wednesday, the 12th we’ll start from the centre of the town and drive to Humppila Glass Factory. There are different kinds of boutiques – last year’s team leader from Texas bought glassware and a reindeer skin....

After that we’ll have a snack – we thought you might want to compare our hamburgers to yours.... Then we head to Häme Visitor Centre (no high heels today). Short nature trek and nature related film.

After that you are taken to a local airfield – www.rayskala.com/english - where Mr. Jaakko Kuusinen is going to fly you to the moon.... well, not quite, but an interesting experience altogether! After you have seen Finland in bird view, we head to old war cabin, that used to belong to our war hero, Marshall Mannerheim and we’ll enjoy dinner in this characteristic place. More info on that: http://www.marskinmaja.net/english/ At some point you are returned to your host families and BED!

Thursday, the 13th, you’ll visit our neighbouring town, Somero and their rotary club is hosting you. There is visit to a Pellavakeskus – Linen Centre, that is local shop for handicraft products.(Did not add a link, since their pages are only in Finnish.) Also today you need to have good shoes on, since you are going to have a short outing in the woods of Somero.

After lunch you’ll visit old wooden church and then – Hiidenlinna. A one man’s dreams come true. Everything you’ll see – all is made by the owner. Unfortunately the website in only in Finnish, but you’ll get the idea of the photos....

After that experience you are whisked to Finnish sauna by the lake. IF you dare, you can swim in the lake – the water is clean and brisk, but cold. And it is going to be fun, unforgettable experience – from hot to cold and hot!! (We Finns recommend this experience to tourists, but hardly do it ourselves.. Well – at least I’m the one with the cold feet...) Some times during the evening, you’ll be back home...

Friday, the 14th – our last day – you’ll wake up happy and well rested – you’ll have the hang of our daylight hours....We all meet up at the local hotel, PumpuliEnkeli (this is our meeting point every morning) and say our farewells. Next town, new experiences await for you...

If you have any questions or requests at all, please send them to Jaakko or myself. Here in the end, are some links where to find us in Finland... The Upper Secondary School of ForssaForssa, Humppila, Räyskälä, Somero.  The website of Forssa town has some information in English – www.forssa.fi.

Looking forward to see you all soon,
Heidi
